about
Really Fast Car is the high-octane debut single from the New York based “slam-gaze” group Blisspoint. A scalding airbender fueled by exploding 808’s, pure speed, and adrenaline spirals out from information chaos, reveling in the anxiety of now. Inspired by, if not reactionary to, barraging news and notifications as the song suggests a “wormhole in my pocket,” this jolting and inter-dimensional worm-burner rides a wave of industrial drum patterns like the clanging of data itself. An unhinged, improvised-on-the-spot vocal performance by C. Proctor delivers a cloudy anthem behind the wheel, and hits a wall at 90mph.
The track was created collaboratively in a ping-ponging of demos, initially as a long form techno mix by River Fleischner. On the eve of election night in 2020, C. Proctor took the mix and ran with a handful of experimental vocal takes to lay the conceptual framework. Realizing heat, it then bounced through a lofi resampling by Til Will, where the “vaporwave outtro” was initially added in jest and later stuck for good. The track went on to be cut even further with added instrumentals and vocals collaboratively by Fleischner & Claire Joko-Fujimoto before ultimately realizing a final mix from Adam Stilson of Decade Music Studios in Chicago.
The music video for Really Fast Car takes place in and around the apartment where the song was made, featuring C. Proctor trading vocal verses with River Fleischner. It was directed and shot by Claire Joko-Fujimoto, edited by River Fleischner, with an animation segment contributed by Til Will.
